The dancer and choreographer Mouna Laroussi embodies her bi-cultural Moroccan and Dutch roots in renewing crossover dance styles.

As a choreographer she highlights aspects from the Middle East and West in her work. Her work is known for her raw, masculine choreographies with a touch of humour.

Laroussi began her work at Dansmakers Amsterdam with a research project (2008) in collaboration with Marie-Rose Mayele, that further developed into the dance productionValse Noten (2009), for young audiences. Central to the research was on the differences and parallels between belly dance and contemporary dance. The piece is currently touring in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Laroussi’s cooperation with Kathrin Gramelsberger also began as a research project at Dansmakers that developed into the production ChamaeLeon (2010-11).  The content focuses on defining identity in  people with dual cultural backgrounds. This production will tour in 2011-2012 season.

Sneak Preview, this docu-dance performance will premiere on 11th of June 2012 at Paradiso in Amsterdam.

Additionally, Laroussi danced in four productions of Aya Dance Theater: Bronstsluier; Ziel; Ideals and Venus.
